What makes you think you eat too much?
Do you eat and eat at times?
Do you crave some foods and feel you eat too much of them?
Do you eat when you feel mad, sad, or lonely?
It’s all right to eat a lot at times. It is all right to eat to make yourself feel better. Everybody does it. Don’t try to go without eating. It doesn’t work and in the long run you will eat more, not less. Have food you crave often enough so it isn’t such a big treat.
Be kind to yourself with your eating:
- Have meals and snacks with food you enjoy.
- Pay attention to your food. Enjoy it.
- Eat the food you want. Eat as much as you want.
- Don’t beat up on yourself after you eat. That is not kind, and it will make your eating worse, not better.
- Know what you feel. Tell yourself you can eat if you want to. Ask, “what do I want to do for myself with this food?”
- Be kind to yourself. Say nice things, like, “I deserve to eat what I like.”
Eating is one of lots of ways to feel better. Here are some more ways:
- Talk with a friend.
- Do the job you have been putting off.
- Take a walk.
- Take a nap.
- Write about how you feel.
- Read a good book.
