Being active is good for you.
It makes you strong and healthy and makes you feel better. Forget all the rules about what you should do. Forget about pain. Think about what you want to do. Keeping active can be fun. Also think about what you have to do. Keeping active can fit into your day.
Here is how to fit activity into your day:
- What is fun for you? Do you like to dance? Work in the garden? Go to the park?
- What do you have to do? Walk to the store? Clean the house? Run after the children?
- Be comfortable. Wear clothes that let you move and shoes that feel good.
- Play with your children. They will love it.
- Do your chores to music. You will move faster and longer to the beat.
- Walking is the best activity of all — it is cheap, pleasant, and doesn’t hurt. Is there some place you can walk?
Don’t forget about weight-lifting:
- Lift your child with your legs, not your back.
- Keep your elbows close to your body when you lift your child in the air. That way you won’t strain your back.
- Carry your child first on one hip, then on the other.
- Play horsey-back with first one leg, then the other.
